Nine Altha Wildcat girl weightlifters traveled to Suwannee High School in Live Oak on Friday to compete in the Region 1 1A Championship.  Throughout a long afternoon/night of competition, the lifters rose to the occasion and came home with several medals. In the 110 lb class, Junior Katie Layfield placed third.  Paige Stone, freshman, was runner up in the 119 lb class.  Winning the region in the 129 lb class was Braeden Smith, a junior.  Senior Gracie Marshall placed third in the 199 lb class.  Eighth graders Kaylean Clowes and Tarrin McCrone had the highest totals in their respective weight classes for middle school lifters. Paige Tice (freshman) and Anna Hand (sophomore) finished their season on a high note, going six for six on their lifts.  Sophomore Christy Jones finished 7th in her weight class at a repeat Regional appearance.
Together, the girls accomplished the feat of winning the team Regional Runner-Up title, finishing behind Suwannee High School.
