The Altha Middle School softball team won the Panhandle Conference for the second straight year. Seeded number one in the tourney, the LadyCats first faced number four seed, Hosford on Thursday night. The Lady Cats were successful in beating Hosford. Bobbi Finuff lead the LadyCats at the plate going 2 for 3, with a single and an in the park homer, Morgan Raper went 2 for 3, Mallory Dalton, Madison Hathaway, Abby Ham and Sydney Helms each had a hit. Offensively the LadyCats only had 2 strikeouts in 28 at bats.
Defensively, Mallory Dalton was in the circle for the LadyCats. She had 7 strikeouts, allowed 3 walks and gave up 6 hits. She pitched the full six innings. Behind her, the team played pretty solid allowing only three errors.
The win over Hosford, allowed the LadyCats the chance at the championship. They would face Blountstown on Friday. In a dramatic bottom of the 6th inning finish, the middle school LadyCats captured the Championship for the second year in a row. Heading into the 6th inning, we were down 2-6. After a 7th inning rally, and scoring 5 runs, we captured the win 7-6.
Offensively, Madison Hathaway was a joint leader for the LadyCats at the plate going 2 for 3, with a single and a double, along with Morgan Raper, who went 2 for 3, with two base hit bunts. Hadley Barfield and Abby Ham each contributed a hit.
Defensively, we had 4 errors in the field. Mallory Dalton pitched all 6 innings, striking out 3 and giving up 6 hits.
It has been a great season for the middle school team, finishing with an 8-4 record.
